Dr. Rick’s mission is to make dentistry a positive experience for everyone, from the very young who are coming to the dentist for the first time, to people who are looking for an exceptional dental practice to call their own.

Known for his gentleness, patience and attention to detail, you will see the great care he takes in everything he does. During your appointment he is there with you, and not in and out of the room. He wants to listen, to know you as a person, and to build a relationship with you. “I care about people,” he says. “I do everything possible to make each person’s experience positive and when I am with them, I am focused on them. With the compassionate staff by his side, he is excited to offer dental care like nothing you have experienced before!

You are not just a number at Avalon Dental Spa. Dr. Rick takes as long as it takes to treat you, no rush, no hurry. He desires to be as conservative as possible while creating beautiful smiles. He will address your concerns carefully and thoughtfully. Part of his genius is in his ability to listen to you, hear your questions, and endeavor to explain what he’s doing as he does it.

The design found in the “Green House by City Park” is an indication of Dr. Rick’s keen attention to detail. This is also apparent in his pursuit of excellence in orthodontics for over 30 years. His continuing training opens new insights into the connection between proper breathing and normal facial development.

After Dr. Robertson graduated from Purdue University (the school that he holds closest to his heart) with a degree in Biology, he wanted to become a dentist to help people, not to hurt them. Having been admitted a year early to dental school, he received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Indiana University School of Dentistry. His diligent pursuit of orthodontic training with experts from all over the world began in 1986.

Dr. Rick believes everyone’s time is just as valuable as his. It’s about respect for you, your time, your oral health and aesthetic goals, and your children’s needs, too. Whether you are coming in for cosmetic and restorative dentistry, orthodontics, TMJ, sleep apnea, whitening, dentures, or night guards, Dr. Rick will bring his advanced training, expertise, skill and gentleness to your unique situation.

Outside the office, Dr. Rick enjoys nature hikes and bird-watching with his wife, Carroll and Wire Fox Terriers, Cap and Carly. His grown sons will often entice him into a game of Ultimate Frisbee or basketball. He also participates in the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, Gideons International Jail Ministry, and his church’s children’s ministry as a teacher. He also “lets his hair down” as a skit comedian for Vacation Bible School.

Dr. Rick would love for you to visit him and see a dental office you’ve never seen before. But he knows atmosphere is only part of it. He looks forward to having you be greeted as someone special, to feel cared for, and be treated by unhurried, compassionate professionals who are doing their very best to improve your oral health and give you the most relaxing and restorative dental experience possible.

Sydney Musall

Sydney has been Dr. Rick’s assistant since 2008. A career choice spanning over 16 years and has been the best decision she has ever made. Over the years, she has been not only Dr. Rick’s right hand person, but she has learned many other aspects that go into working in a successful dental practice. From treating patients and educating them on proper dental care, laboratory work and learning useful aspects to help at the front desk when needed. Her most favorite thing about being a part of this office, is the freedom to worship God and speak freely about His grace and love.

Sydney has been happily married to her husband Bill since 2000 and together they have their son Ben, born 2001. Her extracurricular activities include being the Advancement chair for the local Boy Scout troop and Committee chair for the local Cub Scout troop. She loves her family time and the dear friends she has made at Avalon over the years, and sharing her love of Jesus and all he has done in her life.

Vickie Quasebarth

Vickie has been working at Avalon Dental since 2015 as a Dental Hygienist. A career path that was changed from a business degree to going back to college and earning her degree in Dental Hygiene, which was greatly influenced by Dr. Rick’s wife, Carroll. They both had such strong faith in her, that God truly blessed her with this career choice.

There are many things about her job that Vickie loves. Educating, care, & treatment to her patients is critical to her profession, but knowing she can freely listen to her patients’ concerns on both professional and personal levels brings her such joy. She feels deeply honored that patients trust her. Also, she could not ask for a better staff to work with. The love, care, and professionalism of each one of them truly is a blessing.

On her free time, Vickie spends time with her husband Ed. Between them, they have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. She enjoys working in her flower beds at home & at church. Enjoys camping, kayaking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Samantha Harrison

Samantha takes great pride in her role at Avalon Dental Spa, where the team treats one another like family. She finds the level of teamwork and trust among her colleagues truly remarkable, unlike anything she has experienced in previous jobs. Additionally, she relishes the opportunity to learn from patients and values the interactions she has with them. It brings her immense joy to see them leave the office satisfied, often with smiles on their faces and a sense of peace.

On weekends, Samantha cherishes her time with family, relishing hiking adventures and embracing the beauty of the fall season, complete with cozy campfires. She enjoys reading her Bible and embraces her role as a pastor’s wife wholeheartedly. With a deep love for God, Samantha strives to be a light for Jesus in all that she does!
